Vertical stele

The stele is rectangular in shape and the lower right corner
is missing. The epitaph is distributed over twenty lines and
is enclosed on the top, right and left sides within an engraved
frame, composed of a S-shaped motif, similar to that of the
stele MO177. The writing is engraved, in Kufic with
triangular and bilobed apexes, and some vegetal elements,
with no vowels, nor diacritical and orthographic marks.

4 is no God but Allāh, the One, there is no partner with
him,
5 and that Muḥammad is His servant and His messenger.

warning* (part of Kor. 2:119 or Kor. 35:24)

calling
unto
7 God by His leave, and as a light-giving lamp* (Kor.
33:46).
8 He accomplished the mission, acted in good faith
toward his community, fou
9 ght for (the cause of) God until the Certain comes to
thee (inspired by the end of Kor. 15:99). May
10 God and His angels bless Muḥammad and
11 his family and give him peace with all the prophets and the
12 messengers. He testifies that the paradise and the fire
13 are truth and that *God shall raise up whosoever is
within the tombs

(end of Kor. 22:7). In this (belief)
14 he has lived, and in it he has died. O God! Forgive
15 his trespass, grant him light in his grave,
16 reunite him to his prophet, make him the object of his
inter
17 cession, allow him to live close to him, do not de
18 prive us of the chance to take advantage fromhis merits and
grant that after him we do not suffer damages. He died on
19 Friday nine nights from the (end of)

20 of the year eight and thirty and two hundred (21

La stele è di forma rettangolare e manca dell’angolo inferiore
destro. L’epitaffio si sviluppa su venti righi ed è racchiuso
sui lati superiore, destro e sinistro entro una cornice incisa,
composta da una treccia a due capi, simile a quella della stele
MO177. Scrittura incisa, in cufico con apici triangolari,
bilobati e qualche elemento vegetale, privo di punti diacritici,
vocali e segni ortografici.

4 vi è altro Dio se nonAllāh, l’Unico, che non ha associati
5 e che Muḥammad è il Suo servitore e il Suo messaggero.
6 Lo ha inviato *portatore di Verità, Nunzio di buona
novella e Ammonitore* (parte di Cor. II,119 oppure di
Cor. XXXV,24) *e come voce che
7 chiama a Dio, col Suo permesso, e lampada scintillante*
(Cor. XXXIII,46).
8 Adempì la missione, agì in buona fede verso la sua
comunità, com
9 batté per (la causa di) Dio finché gli giunse la certezza
suprema (espressione ispirata alla fine di Cor. XV,99).
Benedicano
10 Dio e i Suoi angeli Muḥammad e
11 la sua famiglia e gli diano eterna salute insieme con tutti
i profeti e i
12 messaggeri. Egli testimonia che il paradiso e il fuoco
13 sono verità *e che Dio susciterà a vita gli abitatori dei
sepolcri* (fine di Cor. XXII,7). E (attestando)
14 ciò visse e morì. O Dio! Perdona
15 la sua colpa, fagli luce nella sua tomba,
16 ricongiungilo al suo profeta, fallo oggetto della sua inter
17 cessione, permettigli di dimorare vicino a lui, non pri
18 varci di trarre vantaggi dai suoi meriti e fai sì che dopo
di lui non subiamo danni. È morto nel gior
19 no di venerdì a nove notti mancanti da(lla fine di)
