The stele has the shape of a rectangle with the short sides
irregularly squared

. The epitaph, distributed over five
lines, is enclosed on four sides by a frame in relief which in
some points follows the outline of the letters. The writing is
carved in low relief, in Kufic with large triangular apexes
and some vegetal elements, with no vowels, nor diacritical
and orthographic marks.
1 In the name of God, the Compassionate, the Merciful.
Verily in God there is consolation for
2 every adversity, and compensation for all that perishes,
and understanding for what has passed.
3 And verily the greatest of adversities is the adversity (of
the death) of the prophet Muḥammad. May God bless him
4 and give him peace. This is the tomb of Aḥmad b. Isḥāq
al-Za
5 yyāt. He died in the year three and forty and two
hundred (243/857-58).

La stele ha la forma di un rettangolo con i lati brevi
squadrati in maniera irregolare

. L’epitaffio, distribuito su
cinque righi, è racchiuso sui quattro lati entro una cornice
in rilievo che segue, in alcuni punti, il profilo delle lettere.
Scrittura scolpita in leggero rilievo, in cufico con ampi apici
triangolari e qualche elemento vegetale, privo di punti
diacritici, vocali e segni ortografici.

in Dio vi è il conforto per
2 ogni calamità, un compenso per tutto ciò che è destinato
alla perdizione e un seguito per ogni cosa passa
3 ta. E certamente la più grande calamità è stata quella che
ha colpito il profeta Muḥammad. Che lo benedica
4 Dio e gli dia eterna salute. Questa è la tomba di Aḥmad
b. Isḥāq al-Za
5 yyāt. Èmorto nell’anno tre e quaranta e duecento (243/857-
58).
